Who
are we?
San Diego Friends is a social group that meets regularly to enjoy
a variety of activities including pot-luck dinners, BBQ's, movies,
camping trips, hikes, etc. We share conversations and have fun with
others who share our unique situation.
We are a diverse group that welcomes everyone over the age of 18
whatever their background, ethnicity, sexual orientation, religion
or politics.
Since SD Friends is not a support group or a dating service; we
do not make available member contact information. Members who want
to socialize outside group activities are free to exchange information
on their own and post messages at the SD Friends2 Yahoo Group. To
post messages you must join the group at: http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/sdfriends2
See our Resources page for dating services
and support groups.
How
and where do we meet?
Many of our events are potluck "Meet and Greets" hosted
by other members in their private residences, so even new members
should feel comfortable. These will always be "closed"
events unless otherwise noted, meaning they are limited to only
those that have herpes. (This is not to be exclusive, but to avoid
confidentiality issues with non-H guests.)
Occasionally, there will be events in public places. These are
considered "open" events. Please be discrete about discussing
our issues at open events. You might be comfortable with being "out"
but others might not, so please respect everyone's privacy.
Upcoming events are posted at both the SD Friends Yahoo Group,
and our Calendar page at this website.

Policies and Proceedures
- All member contact information is strictly confidential and
will never be released by us. When you post your contact information
at the Yahoo Group website, it can be seen only by the other members
of the group. Each member is approved by a group administrator
before joining.
- Alcohol is allowed at get-togethers, however you will need
to provide it yourself; San Diego Friends does not provide alcohol
of any kind. Please drink responsibly. No one under the age of
21 is permitted to drink alcohol at any San Diego Friends event.
Anyone caught providing alcohol to a minor will be asked to leave
immediately.
- Ours is a social group, not an educational or support group.
If you are looking for medical information or counseling, please
contact San Diego City
HELP at 619-491-1194 for recorded information about meeting
times and locations.
- San Diego Friends relies upon your donations to remain in existence.
A nominal donation of $5 at the events pays for the general group
supplies, plates, ice, soda, water, etc. and also will helps us
continue to provide these opportunities for members to meet and
socialize in a fun, casual, and tension free setting.
- An RSVP is generally necessary for San Diego Friends events,
so that we can better determine the supplies that will be needed.
We understand that scheduling conflicts will come up, so if you
RSVP for an event and find you are unable to attend, it is very
important that you let us know ASAP. Your cooperation is greatly
appreciated.
- Directions to events will be provided after you RSVP. Please
do not provide directions to others, even if they are members.
Have them contact us directly and we will send directions to them.
- If you engage in any illegal activity during group functions
you will be asked to leave and you may be deleted from the mailing
list.
- Obnoxious, abusive, hostile, or disrespectful behavior will
not be permitted at San Diego Friends functions and will result
in a request for your departure and possible removal from the
yahoo group.
- At potluck events, you will be asked to provide a small food
item. Please be creative and share those favorite family recipes.
A small portion for 6-8 people is enough. Disposable containers
are recommended. Please don't forget to take any non-disposable
items home at the end of the function.
- Look for the yellow balloons. These have become the standard
at SD Friends events to let members know that they are in the
right place.
- If you know someone else who 'qualifies' for membership, don't
hesitate to tell them about us. Also, please feel free to share
information about SD Friends with your personal physician. Recruiting
help and suggestions are always welcomed.
- This is YOUR group, we encourage you to get involved.
- If you would like to host a monthly Meet and Greet at your house,
please contact the administrator at: sdfriends2@yahoo.com
- If you have a fun idea for an event or activity, you can add
it to the SD Friends Yahoo Group Calendar and Message Board. Here's
how:
- Check the Calendar to find a free date
- Post your event information on the Calendar
- Post a message with your event information on the message
board.
